The Houston Texans received positive news regarding offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is expected to miss only a few weeks due to a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This update comes after concerns arose following his injury during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers.
Reports from KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while Smith's injury is not considered major, it will still keep him sidelined temporarily. Smith, who was signed to a two-year, $20 million contract during the offseason, was anticipated to fill the starting right tackle position, but this injury presents a challenge to that plan.
ESPN's Adam Schefter indicated that Smith could be absent for a few weeks, which is a relief compared to more severe injury scenarios. The Texans' offensive line situation remains uncertain, but the team may not need to rush Smith back into action.
The Houston Chronicle's Jonathan M. Alexander noted that Trent Brown has been performing consistently at right tackle, and the team is satisfied with the progress of Blake Fisher, who has emerged as a reliable swing tackle.
