The New England Patriots have made a significant roster move by trading wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In exchange, the Patriots received Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick for 2028.
Boutte, who is 24 years old and in the final year of his rookie contract, became surplus to requirements in New England's receiving lineup, especially after the team added AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs. Other receivers, including DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism, also contributed to the depth at the position.
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel explained that the trade was a strategic decision, providing Boutte with a better opportunity to play rather than remaining inactive on the Patriots' roster. He noted that without injuries, Boutte would likely not have seen game action due to his lack of special teams involvement.
Vrabel expressed that trading Boutte was a difficult choice, highlighting the player's commendable attitude and personal growth. He communicated his respect for Boutte, acknowledging the player's maturity and ability to articulate his struggles from the previous season.
