This move comes on the heels of a regular season where TCU ended with an 8-4 record, a season that initially fostered aspirations for a successful pursuit of the Big 12 championship and potential NFL draft opportunities.
Before Hoover's announcement, TCU's personnel team had already started identifying quarterback prospects, not foreseeing his departure. General manager Ryan Dorchester mentioned that Hoover was considered a crucial player for the upcoming season, with no indications that he would leave Fort Worth. However, they had begun scouting quarterbacks as a precautionary measure in light of a possible NFL draft decision.
The Horned Frogs are specifically targeting an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, as they consider high school signee Adam Schobel to be their long-term quarterback solution. Following the confirmation of Hoover's transfer, TCU swiftly moved to recruit Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who had performed well at Harvard for two seasons.
Dorchester first identified Craig while reviewing footage of a former Harvard receiver, praising Craig's efficiency, decisiveness, and strong arm.
Despite Hoover's commendable performance throughout the season, he did not garner significant interest from NFL scouts, leading TCU's coaching staff to believe he would stay with the team.
