The Dallas Cowboys have parted ways with running back Jaydon Blue, who was previously seen as a promising addition to their roster. Blue, a fifth-round pick in 2025 and former University of Texas player, was released over the weekend as the Cowboys shifted their running back strategy. Shortly after his release, Blue was signed to the practice squad of their rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.
Blue's tenure with the Cowboys was marked by challenges, including a lack of maturity that led to limited playing time during his rookie season. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer indicated that there was little chance of Blue returning to the team, stating that the possibility was essentially a 'no.'
Despite his struggles, Blue showcased impressive speed, running a 4.38-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, and the Cowboys hope he does not realize his potential in an Eagles uniform.
Meanwhile, the Cowboys have added Emari Demercado, a former standout with the Arizona Cardinals, to their running back lineup. Demercado, who stands 5-11 and weighs 215 pounds, brings experience and versatility to the team. He averaged 6.5 yards per carry during his time in Arizona and is expected to contribute to both the offense and special teams.
Demercado's performance during his three seasons with the Cardinals included 126 carries for 819 yards and three touchdowns. His addition comes as the Cowboys look to bolster their running game, with Malik Davis currently serving as the No. 2 back and Hunter Luepke as a fullback.
