The defense attorney for Jacob Fields, a former TCU football player, alleges that the coaching staff was aware of increasing tensions during practice leading up to a locker room fight on August 13. Fields, who faces an aggravated assault charge, is accused of injuring teammate Dozie Ezukanma, who required three days of hospitalization due to a brain bleed.

Attorney Coby DuBose contests the arrest warrant affidavit's claim that Fields attacked Ezukanma without provocation, asserting instead that Fields approached Ezukanma for a greeting before the confrontation occurred.

DuBose claims that Fields had previously communicated his concerns to the coaching staff about the rough treatment he experienced during practices, emphasizing that he had expressed his frustration about being subjected to illegal hits and other aggressive behaviors.

DuBose argues that the coaching staff did not take the situation seriously and failed to act in a manner that could have prevented the altercation. Supporting his position, Fields’ agent, Phillip “Red” Miller, noted that there was excessive aggression during practices.

However, a source within the TCU football program challenged DuBose's assertions, and athletic director Mike Buddie stated that the coaching staff handled the situation appropriately. The ongoing investigation continues to unfold, leaving further details about the coaching staff's actions unclear.
