White Sox rout Astros 5-1 in Houston

A Decisive Away Victory

The Chicago White Sox defeated the Houston Astros 5-1 on Wednesday, September 2, at Daikin Park. The away team dominated the offensive sequence, scoring all five of their runs between the fifth and seventh innings. The Houston Astros, playing in front of a crowd of 26,838, managed only a single run in the eighth inning.

The result improves the White Sox record to 73-65, while the Astros drop to 70-69.

Scoring Sequence

Chicago took the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Benintendi singled to right field, allowing Antonacci to score and moving Vargas to third base. Shortly after, Colson Montgomery doubled to right field, driving in both Benintendi and Vargas to extend the lead to 3-0.

The White Sox added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Grichuk doubled to right field, scoring Montgomery and Murakami to make it 5-0. The Astros answered in the bottom of the eighth inning when Paredes hit a home run to left field, traveling 339 feet, to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Pitching Performance

Sean Burke earned the win for Chicago, pitching 5.2 innings while allowing one hit and no earned runs. He issued four walks and struck out six batters. Bryan Hudson preserved the lead with a save, pitching 1.1 innings with one hit, no earned runs, and two strikeouts.

Jordan Hicks and Grant Taylor completed the Chicago rotation, with Taylor retiring the final two batters without allowing a hit or walk.

For Houston, Ronel Blanco started the game, pitching four innings with three hits, no earned runs, and three walks. Kai-Wei Teng took the loss, pitching two innings while allowing three hits and three earned runs. Tatsuya Imai finished the game, pitching three innings with two hits, two earned runs, and five strikeouts.
