Alanna Smith did not miss a shot Tuesday, and the Dallas Wings did not miss the playoffs.
Smith scored 10 points on 4-for-4 shooting, including a 3-pointer, in 24 minutes as the Wings beat the Portland Fire 96-78 at College Park Center and locked the No. 8 seed. The Associated Press reported that all five Dallas starters finished in double figures. ESPN's box score lists Smith with five rebounds, two assists, one steal, two turnovers, and a plus-22.
She went 1-for-1 from 3-point range and 1-for-1 at the line.
Dallas is 23-16. The AP wrote that the Wings have not reached the postseason since 2023 and that Tuesday's win set a club record for victories in a regular season, with five games remaining.
Four makes, no misses
CBS Sports' play-by-play logged Smith's first field goal at 3:56 of the opening quarter, a 13-foot jumper with an assist from Jessica Shepard that made it 17-8. ESPN's game log listed that same basket as an 11-foot running jumper. Smith had already assisted Awak Kuier's 24-foot 3-pointer on the first possession, CBS shows.
She checked back in during the second quarter and hit a 26-foot 3-pointer from Paige Bueckers with 1:13 left in the half, stretching the lead to 47-33. In the third she finished a layup from Shepard at 8:40 for 52-39, then another from Arike Ogunbowale at 5:39. Megan DiLeo fouled her on that drive, and Smith made the free throw for a 65-41 lead.
CBS later credited her with a steal from Emily Engstler.
Bueckers finished with 22 points and 11 assists, Shepard with 21 points, nine rebounds, and six assists, Ogunbowale with 17, and Kuier with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and five blocks. Smith was the fifth starter into double figures, the AP recap noted. Maddy Siegrist added nine off the bench.
Portland never led
ESPN's scoring by quarter was Dallas 27-23-21-25 and Portland 18-19-15-26. The Fire (15-23) never held the lead and trailed by as many as 26, the AP reported. Bridget Carleton and Karlie Samuelson each scored 14. Engstler had 12 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.
