The Houston Texans have trimmed their roster from 90 to 53 players as they prepare for their Week 1 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. This decision has clarified some aspects of the team’s composition, but several questions remain regarding the roster's future.
One significant question is whether the Texans will sign another quarterback to their practice squad. Currently, they have two quarterbacks, C.J. Stroud and Davis Mills, on the active roster.
Veteran Brett Rypien, who served as the third quarterback during preseason, was released during the cuts. While the Texans seem satisfied with their current quarterback situation, they may explore options available on the market, including veterans like Bailey Zappe and Josh Johnson, in the coming weeks.
Another area of uncertainty is the tight end position. The Texans have five tight ends on their roster, including Brevin Jordan, who was brought back after the cuts. Each tight end offers different skills, but it is unclear who will be inactive on gameday against the Bills.
Jordan, who is currently dealing with a leg injury, is a likely candidate to be inactive, despite the possibility of him or another tight end being utilized later in the season.
Additionally, the Texans will have to manage the absence of two key players, wide receiver Tank Dell and offensive tackle Braden Smith, who are both on injured reserve. This status means they will miss at least the first four games of the season.
