The Houston Texans have secured wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots in a trade confirmed by Boutte on social media. The deal involves the Texans sending safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick in 2028 to the Patriots.
This acquisition follows the injury of Texans' wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during a joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. Higgins was anticipated to be a key player alongside star receiver Nico Collins, having recorded 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns in his rookie season.
Boutte, a sixth-round draft pick in 2023, had a productive season last year with 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns. The Patriots had a surplus of wide receivers after trading for A.J. Brown in June and signing Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million contract in March.
In addition to Boutte, the Texans have also signed veteran receivers Zay Jones and Sterling Shepard over the weekend as they work to fill the gap left by Higgins's injury. Further details regarding the team's future plans have not yet been disclosed.
