The Houston Texans have been the focus of attention this offseason, particularly regarding their offense. While starting quarterback C.J. Stroud has garnered significant headlines, there are growing concerns about the wide receiver group, especially the status of Tank Dell.

Jonathan M. Alexander from the Houston Chronicle reports that Dell may not be ready to start for the Texans in their season opener on September 13. Dell began participating in practice during the second week of training camp, but his involvement has been limited, primarily focusing on individual drills and a few team reps.

Recently, he has not practiced in front of the media for three days, raising further questions about his readiness.

Despite two league sources indicating that Dell has not experienced a setback, he is not yet able to practice on a daily basis. It appears unlikely that he will participate in the Texans' final preseason game, leaving only three weeks of practice before the season begins.

This situation may lead the Texans to retain seven receivers instead of the usual six on their 53-man roster while they await Dell's return.

With Dell's status uncertain, the Texans are also dealing with the implications of Jayden Higgins' ACL injury, which has thrown the team's plans for a No. 2 wide receiver into disarray. Xavier Hutchinson and Jaylin Noel are now seen as potential candidates to step up in Higgins' absence, with Hutchinson having made progress last season and Noel demonstrating playmaking ability.

There is hope that Dell can regain his explosive playing style, but it remains unclear how long that recovery will take. Until he is able to participate fully in a regular season game, the Texans cannot rely on him. While a healthy Dell would certainly be beneficial for the team's aspirations this season, his immediate availability is still in question.
