TCU has dismissed safety Jacob Fields from its football team just days before the season opener against North Carolina. This decision comes after a physical confrontation with a teammate that occurred in the locker room on August 13, according to the TCU crime and fire log.
Reports from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram indicate the incident was characterized as an aggravated assault. Sources suggest that Fields was involved in a dispute with an offensive player and had previously expressed concerns about being targeted by teammates through insults and threats, including being spat on.
Before the altercation, Fields had attempted to communicate with the coaching staff multiple times regarding the rising tensions but received no reply. He joined TCU from Louisiana Tech this offseason, where he was anticipated to be the starting free safety. In 2025, Fields earned recognition as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year in Conference USA, having played all 12 games for Louisiana Tech.
He topped his team with 92 tackles and achieved three interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. Additionally, he made 2.5 tackles for loss and had five pass breakups last season.
