The Houston Texans have made a significant roster move by acquiring wide receiver Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. The trade also involves safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round pick in the 2028 NFL Draft.
Boutte, who was drafted in the sixth round in 2023, will continue to wear blue as he joins the Texans. This acquisition comes in response to the injury of Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins, who tore his ACL during a joint practice with the Raiders on August 19.
Higgins, a former second-round pick, was expected to build on his rookie season performance but will now focus on recovery.
In his time with the Patriots, Boutte played a total of 29 games over the last two seasons, accumulating over 500 receiving yards in each year. He caught three touchdown passes in 2024 and six in the 2025 season, contributing to the Patriots' success as they won the AFC and reached Super Bowl 60.
Despite his contributions, Boutte's role diminished this offseason following the Patriots' acquisition of receiver AJ Brown and the signing of Romeo Doubs. The Texans, meanwhile, are looking to strengthen their receiving options as they aim to reclaim the AFC South title from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
