Head Coach Neal Brown has raised serious concerns about the offensive line of North Texas as preparations for the 2026 season get underway. Following a recent practice, he remarked on their current state, saying they are not yet meeting the team's needs. Issues such as a lack of physicality in the run game and inadequate pad level have been highlighted.

During the successful 2025 season, the offensive line was instrumental, helping the team achieve the nation's highest total of rushing touchdowns at 49 and earning recognition as the leading scoring offense. Notable players from last year included Gabe Blair, an offensive guard who received First Team All-American Conference honors and was ranked the third-best guard by Pro Football Focus.

With all five starters from the previous season now gone, the team faces the challenge of rebuilding the offensive line. Brown pointed out that only two players, senior Johnny Williams IV and fifth-year Chandler Strong, have demonstrated potential during fall camp, with Strong standing out as the top performer.

The urgency to find the right mix of players is clear, as Brown noted that two offensive linemen are insufficient for college football. All positions on the line are open for competition, regardless of scholarship status, as the coaching staff aims to create a physically dominant unit before their first game on September 5.

Brown emphasized the need for improvement, stating that if the line's performance does not enhance, the team will face difficulties this season.
