Baylor University's football team faces a challenge as wide receiver Taz Williams Jr. suffered a broken collarbone during fall camp and will require surgery. Head coach Dave Aranda confirmed that Williams is expected to return in a few weeks, but his absence will necessitate increased contributions from other players in the wide receiver rotation.

Ashton Jones, a six-foot-four redshirt freshman, is viewed as a potential deep threat for the team. His size and ability to catch 50/50 balls could prove valuable as he gets more opportunities in practice while Williams is sidelined. Wide receivers coach Dallas Baker will evaluate Jones's performance to determine his role in the offense.

Jadon Porter is another candidate to step up, as he has prior experience in the offense. Last season, he recorded nine receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown, demonstrating his capability as an efficient slot receiver. With Williams out, Porter’s familiarity with the system will be crucial for maintaining the effectiveness of the passing game.

Additionally, true freshman London Smith could also play a significant role. Known for his athleticism and speed, Smith has the potential to become a key playmaker for the Bears. However, relying on a freshman comes with risks, including a steep learning curve. Allowing Smith to gain experience during camp could accelerate his development and readiness for the upcoming season.

The situation remains fluid as Baylor prepares for the season, and further details regarding the team's strategy in light of Williams's injury are not yet clear.
