White Castle is preparing to establish its first presence in Texas with a new restaurant in Fort Worth, according to a state permit application filed in Austin. The fast-food chain, known for its small square hamburgers, will open a location at 6013 Retail Way in the Shops at Chisholm Trail Ranch. The project, valued at $2.1 million, is scheduled to open in the middle of 2027. This site will be located in the Chisholm Trail Ranch neighborhood, which sits approximately 31 miles west of Dallas.
The Fort Worth establishment will serve as the southernmost White Castle restaurant in the United States. The chain, which was founded in Kansas in 1921 and is now headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, currently operates its closest locations in the St. Louis and Phoenix metropolitan areas. The company is recognized as the nation’s first fast-food hamburger stand, having opened in Wichita, Kansas, in the same year that the Pig Stand, widely considered the first drive-in restaurant, opened on the west edge of Dallas.
While the Fort Worth site is set for 2027, the chain’s initial Texas location is already under construction in Denton County. That restaurant will be situated at 4520 Destination Drive within the Marketplace shopping center. Details regarding the specific timeline for the Fort Worth opening beyond the mid-2027 target are not yet clear.
The menu at the new Fort Worth location is expected to feature the chain’s signature 2½-inch square hamburgers grilled with chopped onions. In addition to the classic sliders, White Castle offers fried chicken and fried fish sliders, as well as a soy-based Impossible Burger. Side items include french fries, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, and chicken rings. Breakfast options consist of bacon-and-egg sliders and Belgian waffle sliders. Although White Castle sliders are similar in size to those offered by Krystal Burgers, a Tennessee-based chain now owned by Texas interests, the two brands prepare and top their burgers differently.
