A fatal shooting occurred Saturday night in Fort Worth during a Fourth of July gathering near Lake Arlington, leaving one person dead and another hospitalized. The incident took place in the 5900 block of Wilbarger Street, where police responded to reports of multiple gunshot victims around 8:15 p.m.
Fort Worth police spokesperson Officer Cynthia Wood stated that the violence stemmed from a dispute between two men over a woman. According to Wood, both individuals drew firearms and shot one another during the altercation. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released and will be determined by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office. The condition of the surviving victim remains unknown.
Witnesses described the scene as a Fourth of July party that included a DJ and a boxing match. A.D. Brown, a witness at the event, told the Star-Telegram that a fight broke out outside the boxing ring among spectators. Brown said he heard gunshots and watched as people scattered and ducked for cover. He characterized the event as tragic but noted that such violence is not unusual during holiday celebrations.
Dozens of police units and ambulances arrived at the scene, which remained active late Saturday night. Law enforcement blocked nearby streets and detained several witnesses for questioning. Helicopters were observed overhead as the investigation continued. Family members gathered in the vicinity, hoping for updates on their relatives, while chaplains provided support to those waiting.
