Fort Worth is about 31 miles west of Dallas. The North Texas arts calendar for the week of July 3 through July 9 features a blend of final performances for select shows and the opening of new theatrical and museum events across the region.
In Fort Worth, the Amon Carter Museum of Art is hosting "Black Photojournalism," an exhibition highlighting the work of more than 60 photographers from 1945 to the mid-1980s. The display includes over 250 photographs and runs through July 5. The Kimbell Art Museum is presenting "The Holy Sepulcher: Treasures from the Terra Sancta Museum, Jerusalem," which showcases more than 60 objects crafted from silver, gold, enamel, and jewels. This exhibition continues through July 12.
Also in Fort Worth, Artstillery has opened "Dichotomy of Compassion," an interdisciplinary experience combining visual art, soundscapes, and community narratives to address aspects of American democracy. This show runs through July 11. At Stage West Theatre, the production "Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Ghost Machine" continues its run through July 5. The plot follows the detective after his retirement as he investigates the disappearance of Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison’s Ghost Machine and Death Ray.
In Dallas, the Winspear Opera House is launching "Spamalot," a musical comedy about knights searching for the Holy Grail. Performances run from July 9 through July 12. Shakespeare Dallas is presenting two outdoor productions at the Samuell-Grand Amphitheater. "Alice in Wonderland" continues through July 17, while "The Merry Wives of Windsor" runs through July 19.
The Bath House Cultural Center in Dallas is concluding two exhibitions on July 4. "The Eye of the Artist: Interpretations of Nature Art" features works by Penny Wright and Wayne Winn. "Second Surface: Shaping New Futures from Plastic Waste" displays art by Steven Kinder and Purva Chawla that transforms trash into refined products.
