Gerardo Moreno Mendez, a former school administrator in North Texas, was taken into custody last month on allegations that he distributed prescription weight-loss medication to teachers while employed by the Crowley Independent School District. Court documents indicate that Mendez, 32, is accused of selling Tirzepatide to three educators in January.
Tarrant County records show that an arrest warrant was issued for Mendez on June 8. He is charged with delivery or offer of delivery of a dangerous drug. According to court filings, Mendez surrendered to authorities last month after becoming aware of the warrant. He was subsequently released from the Tarrant County jail after posting a $10,000 bond.
Mendez’s attorney, Alex Thornton, stated that his client voluntarily turned himself in. Thornton emphasized that the school district had completed its own internal investigation and had reinstated Mendez as principal prior to the arrest. Thornton noted that while disclosure options are limited, the reinstatement is a critical detail that warrants careful review by the district attorney’s office.
The Crowley Independent School District confirmed that Mendez is no longer employed by the district but declined to provide further details regarding personnel matters involving former staff. The district had previously hired Mendez to serve as the principal of Godley Middle School for the upcoming 2026-27 academic year. However, a spokesperson for the Godley Independent School District clarified that Mendez never actually worked for that system because he resigned after his arrest occurred before the start of his tenure.
