Fort Worth officials are introducing a new mobile veterinary service designed to bring spay and neuter procedures directly to residents. The initiative, named Chip & Snip, will utilize a specialized trailer equipped with modern medical technology to perform surgeries on-site. This mobile unit will also offer microchipping and basic vaccinations to pets brought in by local owners.
The Fort Worth Animal Care & Control department plans to begin operations on July 18. Residents living within eligible ZIP codes can schedule appointments through a dedicated portal on the city’s official website. The mobile clinic will visit designated neighborhoods, allowing pet owners to drop off their animals for surgery and retrieve them on the same day at no cost.
Chris McAllister, the assistant director for Fort Worth Animal Care & Control, stated that the program aims to partner with residents where they live to make responsible pet care more accessible. The department noted that the mobile unit targets areas with the highest need for these services.
Since the start of the 2025-26 fiscal year, the department has performed 5,335 spay and neuter surgeries at its shelter facilities. City officials launched the mobile initiative to encourage responsible pet ownership and assist owners with essential veterinary care. According to the city, spaying and neutering pets can reduce the likelihood of certain cancers and decrease behaviors such as roaming, fighting, or marking territory. These procedures also help curb the population of homeless animals and unplanned litters.
