Paige Bueckers needed one quarter to decide Sunday's game at College Park Center.
The Associated Press reported that she scored 18 of her 32 points in the first quarter as the Dallas Wings beat the Seattle Storm 92-70 and matched the franchise's single-season wins record. ESPN's box score lists Bueckers at 26 minutes, 12-of-16 from the field, 6-of-6 from 3-point range, 2-of-2 from the free-throw line, four rebounds, four assists, three turnovers, one steal, and a plus-16.
Dallas moved to 22-16. The AP wrote that a home win against Portland on Tuesday would clinch a playoff spot.
Opening 10 minutes, then a 56-35 half
Bueckers made seven of eight shots in the first quarter, including all four of her 3-pointers in that period, the AP said. The Wings outscored Seattle 34-17 in those 10 minutes.
CBS Sports' play-by-play logged her first triple at 9:18, a 24-footer with an assist from Jessica Shepard, then 3-pointers from 27, 28, and 30 feet before the quarter ended, plus jumpers from 18 and 15 feet and a layup. Her only miss in the period was a 21-footer with 47.9 seconds left.
ESPN's scoring by quarter was Dallas 34-22-17-19 and Seattle 17-18-23-12. Seattle scored the last 14 points of the second quarter and held the Wings without a point for the final four-plus minutes of the half, the AP wrote, but still trailed 56-35. CBS shows Bueckers' fifth 3-pointer, from 24 feet at 4:03 of the second, made it 56-21 before that Storm run.
She added a sixth 3-pointer from 28 feet at 4:30 of the third for a 71-46 lead, then left the game with 2:01 remaining in the period.
Shooting, Seattle's scorers, and Tuesday
The Wings shot 33-of-66 from the field (50 percent), 11-of-23 from 3-point range (48 percent in the AP recap; 47.8 percent on CBS), and 15-of-17 from the line (88 percent). Seattle went 25-of-74 from the field and 12-of-39 from deep, ESPN's team totals show, and finished 8-of-9 at the line.
