Sunday at College Park Center was the last game for both clubs until the pause. Dallas has won four in a row and has its most victories in a season since 2007, when the franchise also won 24 games as the Detroit Shock. AP later corrected an earlier line that had called that 2007 total 24 straight.
The Shock's franchise-record 25 wins came in 2003, the first of three championship seasons in Detroit.
Same record, different rungs
A 24-16 record does not by itself lock a seed. New York is 14-6 at home and 10-10 on the road. Washington is 13-7 at home and 11-9 on the road.
Dallas is 14-6 at home and 10-10 on the road, per the WNBA standings. Indiana and Atlanta are 26-14, two games ahead of the 24-16 cluster. Minnesota leads the league at 31-9, with Golden State 29-11 and Las Vegas 27-13.
The AP recap treated the three clubs as tied for sixth. The official table applies its own order and has Dallas eighth. Both are true on the same night: the records match, and the posted seed order does not.
How the 97-71 got them there
Per ESPN's AP recap, Arike Ogunbowale scored 18 points, Jessica Shepard had 17 points and 10 rebounds, Paige Bueckers added 15 points and six assists, and Maddy Siegrist scored 11. Shepard's 22nd double-double this season is second in the WNBA behind Angel Reese's 29 and extends the franchise record.
Saniya Rivers's driving layup put the Sun ahead 11-10 about four and a half minutes in. Bueckers scored inside 11 seconds later, and Dallas led the rest of the way. Connecticut trailed by 13 at halftime, then shot 4-of-17 from the field in the third quarter and was outscored 23-12 in the period.
