The Dallas Stars have re-signed captain Jamie Benn to a one-year contract worth a base salary of $850,000, with up to $1.15 million in performance bonuses, the team announced Friday. The deal ensures Benn, 36, will return for his 18th NHL season, all spent in a Stars sweater.
General manager Jim Nill praised Benn's enduring leadership in a statement, saying his commitment to the organization is unmatched and that he continues to set the standard on and off the ice. Benn has captained Dallas since September 2013, making him the longest-serving captain in franchise history.
The veteran forward recorded 36 points, including 15 goals and 21 assists, in 60 regular-season games during the 2025-26 campaign despite missing 20 games with injury. He went scoreless in six playoff appearances as Dallas fell to the Minnesota Wild in the first round.
Benn sits second in Stars and Minnesota North Stars franchise history in games played, goals, and points, trailing only Hall of Famer Mike Modano. He enters next season just eight points shy of 1,000 for his career, with 414 goals and 992 points across 1,252 regular-season contests.
The re-signing comes on the heels of a busy opening day of free agency for Dallas, which traded Mavrik Bourque and Ilya Lyubushkin to Nashville to clear salary cap space. The Stars remain focused on working out a long-term extension for forward Jason Robertson, who is reportedly seeking a deal in the $12 to $14 million annual range.
