Quantrill anchors Rangers offense
Cal Quantrill threw seven scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and striking out five batters, to lead the Texas Rangers to a 5-0 victory over the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. The Rangers finished with a record of 62-64, while the Nationals dropped to 60-67 in the contest held at Globe Life Field.
Scoring unfolds early
The Rangers took an early lead in the first inning when Langford scored on a ground ball into a double play. By the second inning, the margin had widened to two runs after Foscue hit a 400-foot home run to left field. The third inning proved decisive for Arlington, as the home team added three more runs to build a commanding 5-0 lead.
Rangers capitalizes on base running
In the third inning, Nimmo grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Langford to score and Seager to advance to third base. The Rangers followed with a walk to Foscue, which scored Seager and moved Duran to second and Nimmo to third. Freeman then reached on an infield single to third, scoring Nimmo and moving Foscue to second and Duran to third.
