Dallas Shoppers Can Enjoy Tax-Free Weekend for Back-to-School Essentials

As the new school year approaches, Dallas shoppers will benefit from Texas' annual tax-free weekend, taking place from August 7 through August 9, 2026. During this period, many essential back-to-school items will be exempt from state and local sales tax, which can reach as high as 8.25 percent.

Eligible items include most clothing and footwear priced under $100 each, as well as backpacks for students, limited to 10 per purchase, and a designated list of school supplies, each under $100. The tax exemption applies to purchases made in Texas stores or online from Texas-based sellers.

However, certain items are not eligible, including items such as watches, jewelry, handbags, footwear designed mainly for sports, and various electronics and software. Additionally, services such as rentals, alterations, or cleaning are excluded from the tax exemption. Shoppers do not need to present any coupons or certificates, as the discount is applied automatically at checkout for qualifying purchases.
