Dallas, Texas — The Texas Longhorns secured a centerpiece for their 2027 recruiting class Friday when five-star offensive tackle Ismael Camara announced his commitment, choosing Texas over Oregon, SMU, LSU, and Alabama among other suitors.
Camara, listed at 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, hails from Gilmer in East Texas and is ranked among the top offensive line prospects in the nation for his class. His path to American football is unconventional: he grew up in Le Mans, France, and moved to the United States early in high school. The 247Sports scouting report describes him as an elite prospect with a rare blend of physical tools and functional athleticism, comparing him to Miami Dolphins lineman Kadyn Proctor.
The commitment represents a significant recruiting win for head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach Kyle Flood, who personally recruited Camara. The tackle took official visits to LSU on June 5, Texas on June 12, and Oregon on June 19 before reaching his decision on the Fourth of July. Camara played his first season of varsity-level football as a junior in 2025, lining up at left tackle and multiple defensive line positions for Gilmer High School.
Beyond the gridiron, Camara's athleticism extends to track and field, where he has recorded marks of 46 feet, 8.5 inches in the shot put and 135 feet, 6 inches in the discus. His physical dominance in the weight room and multi-sport background have drawn attention from evaluators who view him as a potential multi-year starter at the high-major level with the tools to develop into a coveted professional prospect.
