The Houston Texans have made notable roster improvements during training camp, including the addition of former No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney and Mario Edwards to bolster their defensive line. However, the team has not significantly addressed their wide receiver position, opting instead to rely on younger players already on the roster.
As the regular season approaches, the likelihood of the Texans acquiring a key wide receiver appears to be diminishing. Recently, several top free-agent wideouts have signed with other teams, including Deebo Samuel with the San Francisco 49ers, Stefon Diggs with the Washington Commanders, and Keenan Allen with the Indianapolis Colts, a division rival.
With those players off the market, the remaining free agents present uncertainties or do not match the caliber of those who have signed. Tyreek Hill remains available, but concerns about his recovery from a torn ACL injury make him a less viable option. Other potential candidates like Curtis Samuel, Brandin Cooks, Tyler Lockett, and DeAndre Hopkins may not significantly enhance the Texans' current depth chart.
The Texans appear poised to retain their existing wide receiver group, which includes Nico Collins as the primary target and Jayden Higgins as a possible second option. Other players like Jaylin Noel, Xavier Hutchinson, and a healthy Tank Dell could also contribute to the offense.
Despite the absence of a major signing, the team's depth at the position may be sufficient to maintain a competitive offense.
