Kevin Jennings, the star quarterback for the SMU Mustangs, is reportedly on track to play in the upcoming season opener against the Florida State Seminoles. This follows a finger injury he sustained earlier this month when he accidentally jammed it in a locker room door during fall camp.

Head coach Rhett Lashlee expressed confidence in Jennings' recovery, stating that the redshirt senior has resumed throwing and is feeling no pain. Lashlee indicated that Jennings is expected to have a full two weeks to prepare for the game, aiming for him to be at 100% by kickoff.

Lashlee provided an update on Jennings' condition, noting, "Going well. No pain, and we are working him back in this week and expect him to have a full two weeks to get ready for game one and be 100%." Reports from ESPN's Pete Thamel confirmed that Jennings has begun throwing again as he progresses toward a return.

The injury was never considered serious, and Jennings' return is seen as vital for SMU's success this season. Last year, he achieved career highs with 3,641 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and a completion percentage of 66.1%. However, he also led the ACC with 13 interceptions, highlighting an area for improvement as he prepares for the upcoming season.
