The Houston Texans have made a significant addition to their wide receiver corps by trading for Kayshon Boutte from the New England Patriots. This move comes after the Texans' second-year wide receiver Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL during practice, creating an immediate need for depth at the position.

Boutte, who was in his third year with the Patriots, was traded in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick and safety Jayden Reed. His departure from New England was anticipated as he was unlikely to receive a contract extension after his rookie deal.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans addressed the trade following a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, emphasizing the importance of Boutte to the team's offense. Ryans noted that Boutte's ability to make big plays will be crucial, especially in light of Higgins' injury. "Adding Kayshon is a big get for us," Ryans stated.

"It's hard to replace [Higgins], but Boutte has shown he can make plays consistently."

Boutte's performance in New England has been notable; he recorded 33 receptions for 551 yards and six touchdowns in the 2025 season, contributing to the Patriots' Super Bowl appearance. This marked his second consecutive season with over 30 catches and 500 yards, and he doubled his touchdown total from the previous year.

The Texans are hopeful that Boutte can fill the void left by Higgins and provide a strong presence alongside Nico Collins in the receiving lineup. Ryans expressed enthusiasm about working with Boutte, highlighting his potential for growth and development. "He's a young player with a bright future and big playmaking ability," Ryans added.

As the Texans aim to enhance their passing offense this season, Boutte's performance will be closely monitored, particularly as he approaches a contract year. The full impact of this trade remains to be seen as the season progresses.
