Initially considered a versatile prospect, Barham has been designated by the Cowboys as an off-ball linebacker, a decision that aligns with the team's defensive strategy under new coordinator Christian Parker.
Barham has made a strong impression during summer practices, despite missing some time due to a groin injury. Cowboys' personnel executive Will McClay praised Barham's mental and physical capabilities, stating, "Barham is a grown man from a standpoint of, mentally, he's shown that he can handle different things that we're doing with him. He's very physical, very intentional, and dialed in."
His performance in preseason games has further fueled expectations. Barham demonstrated his readiness by wearing the green dot, indicating he was responsible for communication on the field. He expressed confidence in his abilities, stating, "Physicality, yeah, I showed it. There’s more to show, and you’ll see that as the year goes on," and added, "I’m ready right now.
