Ali Gaye, a defensive end for the Houston Texans, has sustained a significant knee injury during a joint practice session with the Carolina Panthers. According to reports, an MRI confirmed the severity of the injury, which will necessitate a lengthy recovery period and possibly a medical procedure.
The 27-year-old Gaye, who stands 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 265 pounds, initially joined the Texans as an undrafted free agent in 2023 after a stint with the Tennessee Titans. He has recorded nine tackles and one sack in his career. Gaye was expected to provide depth on the defensive line behind established players Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter.
This injury adds to the growing list of Texans players currently sidelined, particularly among defensive ends. Gaye's situation is particularly concerning as he is projected to miss the entire 2026 season, a setback that could impact the team's depth and overall performance as they aim for a Super Bowl run.
The injury to Gaye occurred around the same time as Texans offensive tackle Braden Smith suffered a foot injury, which is expected to keep him out for several weeks. The Texans now face renewed questions regarding their defensive line depth as they prepare for the upcoming season.
