The Dallas Cowboys have finalized a one-year agreement with linebacker Von Miller, who has been eyeing the team throughout the offseason. Miller joins a restructured defense that features approximately six new starters and a new defensive coordinator, Christian Parker. Last season, he recorded nine sacks while playing for the Washington Commanders.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer discussed Miller's potential impact, emphasizing his football intelligence and quickness. Schottenheimer noted that while Miller may not participate in every play, his presence will enhance the team's defensive capabilities. "He understands the game; the football intellect is top tier," Schottenheimer stated.
He added that Miller would likely not play 60 snaps per game but will still contribute significantly during his time on the field.
In the 2025 season, Miller played 17 games for the Commanders, starting three and participating in 420 defensive snaps, which accounted for 37% of the team's total. In Dallas, it is expected that he will have a similar role, primarily coming in during third downs and passing situations while other players handle early downs.
Miller, who was selected second overall in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M, has established himself as one of the league's premier defenders. He won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award in his first season and was named Super Bowl MVP in 2015 after helping the Denver Broncos secure the championship.
