North Texas Mean Green Select Tayven Jackson as Starting QB for Season Opener

Tayven Jackson has been designated as the starting quarterback for the North Texas Mean Green in anticipation of their season opener against Indiana University on September 5, 2026.

Jackson, who has a diverse background in college football, previously played for the Hoosiers. He had limited playing time at Tennessee in 2022 and appeared in 13 games for Indiana in the 2023-24 season, completing 61.2% of his passes with six touchdowns and six interceptions.

In 2025, he made a move to the University of Central Florida, where he achieved a completion rate of 63.5% and threw for 2,151 yards, recording ten touchdowns and eight interceptions, contributing to a 5-7 season for the Knights.

Before entering college football, Jackson excelled at Center Grove High School, where he amassed 4,813 passing yards and 47 touchdowns between 2018 and 2021, guiding his team to a perfect record and a Class 6A championship. Tayven Jackson is also the brother of Trayce Jackson-Davis, a former Indiana Mr. Basketball and current player for the Toronto Raptors.

The matchup between North Texas and Indiana is set to kick off at noon and will be available on Fox.
