The City of Dallas Planning & Development Department will host a Zoning 101 conversation at Dallas City Hall on Tuesday, July 21. The event, titled "How Dallas Takes Shape," serves as the launch for the Zoning 101 Tour, an interactive public initiative designed to provide residents with a hands-on introduction to zoning regulations and their impact on community growth.

The event is open to all residents, regardless of prior knowledge of zoning laws. Unlike traditional public meetings, the July 21 gathering will feature a museum-style experience with learning stations, visual displays, and direct conversations with city staff. The goal is to simplify the understanding of zoning and connect these rules to everyday life in Dallas, including housing, transportation, and public health.

Attendees can choose between two time slots: 11 AM to 1 PM or 5:30 to 7:30 PM. During the event, residents will learn what zoning is and is not, understand the reasons for updating the Development Code, and explore how zoning influences housing, transportation, culture, and neighborhood life. Staff will be available to answer questions and collect feedback to guide future conversations.

This event is part of the broader public engagement for Dallas Zoning Reform, an effort to update the city’s Development Code to make it simple, clear, and future-ready. Future topics in the Zoning 101 Tour series will cover transportation connections, cultural spaces, public health, and environmental comfort.

Residents can learn more and stay connected at www.DallasZoningReform.com. RSVPs are available through Eventbrite.
