U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett of Dallas stated she will shortly release a list of endorsements for Democratic candidates seeking seats in the Texas House and as county judges. This move marks a shift toward supporting down-ballot nominees rather than campaigning for James Talarico, the lawmaker who defeated her in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate earlier this year.
Crockett, currently serving her second term in Congress, has not campaigned alongside Talarico since the primary loss. In a recent interview with The Texas Tribune, she estimated that her upcoming slate would include four state House nominees and three county judge candidates.
She noted that the county judge selections come from large counties where Democratic turnout is critical to maintaining their advantage from the primary election.
Following her March primary defeat, Crockett established the Fueling Individual Rights Everywhere PAC to support candidates across the country. When asked in a CNN interview whether she needed to choose between supporting Talarico or other Democrats, she indicated it was likely an either-or decision for her due to Texas’s size and the volume of races she is backing.
Crockett argued that voters need multiple reasons to participate, citing Beto O’Rourke’s 2018 Senate run as a cautionary example of what happens when Democratic enthusiasm focuses on a single marquee contest. She stated her goal is to amplify candidates who might otherwise be overshadowed by larger races.
