W.T. White High School will launch the Scholar TAG Program starting in the 2027 fall semester. The initiative builds on the College Board’s AP Capstone Diploma program, allowing students to engage in rigorous advanced placement coursework beginning as freshmen. By the 11th grade, participants will transition into AP coursework for all their classes.

Eligibility for the program is determined by students’ GPA, PSAT scores, and prior performance on AP tests. Selected students will receive SAT preparation, participate in service learning opportunities, and have the chance to earn college credit while maintaining a traditional high school experience. The curriculum focuses on analyzing current events, conducting research, and presenting findings individually. Throughout the year, students identify a research question and propose solutions. Upon completing AP Seminar and AP Research courses, students can earn a nationally recognized AP Capstone diploma.

Principal Beth Wing stated that the program aims to place students on an academic playing field within a comprehensive high school setting. She noted that the school already has teachers who are AP test graders for the College Board, which supports the delivery of the program. Wing emphasized that cohort teachers will have dedicated time to monitor student progress and provide support when necessary.

Wing described the initiative as a match for the talent already present on campus. She expressed confidence that students will rise to higher expectations when given the opportunity. The program is designed to help students master skills such as digital media literacy, critical thinking, and public speaking, which translate across various career paths. Educators involved in the program completed specialized professional development known as the AP Summer Institute from the College Board to prepare for the launch.
