The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees held its final meeting for the 2025–2026 school year on July 25. During this session, the board approved several policy updates, administrative changes, and project approvals related to district operations and bond initiatives.
Student Conduct Code Updates
The board approved the Dallas ISD Student Code of Conduct for the 2026–2027 school year. This document outlines student responsibilities, behavioral expectations, and disciplinary procedures applicable across all schools. A notable provision in the updated code addresses the recovery of confiscated mobile devices. Under the new policy, students will be charged between $5 and $15 to retrieve their phones. The policy requires that all confiscated devices be delivered to the school administration as soon as possible.
School Name Change
In a unanimous vote, the board approved the renaming of the César Chávez Learning Center to East Dallas Elementary School. This name change is scheduled to take effect at the start of the 2026–2027 school year.
Bond Program Oversight and Construction
The board established an independent, community-based advisory committee to oversee the 2026 bond program, which was approved by voters. This committee is tasked with ensuring transparency, accountability, and effective community engagement. Members will monitor schedules and budgets, evaluate outreach efforts, and provide recommendations to the superintendent and the board. The committee will submit quarterly updates throughout the duration of the bond program.
Additionally, the board approved construction projects funded by the bond program. These include construction at Adelio Williams Career Institute East, as well as expansions and renovations at Kleberg Elementary School and Bishop Arts STEAM Academy. The board also approved agreements and procurement methods to support the planning, design, and management of these district-wide projects.
International Baccalaureate and Safety Committee
The board approved agreements with vendors to provide professional training, educational materials, and implementation resources for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The IB program has expanded from nine authorized schools in 2020 to 15 schools in 2026. These resources aim to support teachers and staff in implementing IB standards.
Finally, the board nominated Trustee Lance Currie to the Dallas ISD School Safety Committee. Currie will serve a two-year term beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
