The Dallas Independent School District has featured Melva Yanes in its AlumNow series, which highlights the achievements of former students. Yanes, who graduated from Trinidad Garza Early College High School in 2017, is currently the financial manager for Excelencia in Education.

In her current role, Yanes manages daily billing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. She also prepares financial reports and addresses inquiries from affiliates. Yanes noted that her education in Dallas ISD was unique because she was the first person in her family to graduate from high school and college. She credited the significant support from her teachers for guiding her toward opportunities she might not have known about and helping her navigate higher education.

Yanes identified her favorite teacher as Mrs. Arévalo, also known as Coach Arévalo, who has since retired. She stated that Arévalo had a major influence on her education by encouraging students to strive and believe in themselves. Arévalo provided both academic support and inspiration to keep fighting for success throughout Yanes' university studies. Yanes expressed gratitude for having such an incredible teacher and coach during her educational journey.

Regarding career advice for students interested in accounting, Yanes recommended maintaining an open mind and being willing to explore different opportunities. She explained that a bachelor's degree in accounting can open doors in diverse fields. While many associate accounting solely with the business sector, she noted that interesting opportunities also exist in nonprofit organizations and other sectors. She advised that maintaining an open attitude toward different paths can help individuals discover where their skills and interests can have the greatest impact.

The AlumNow series continues to showcase the educational trajectories and professional contributions of Dallas ISD alumni to the community.
