The Irving Police Department has released safety guidance for residents planning to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The information was shared in a social media post on Thursday afternoon and includes a flyer with reminders on several key topics.
Fireworks are prohibited within the city limits of Irving. Authorities note that these devices frequently cause fires and injuries across the county during the holiday. Residents who witness the use of illegal fireworks are asked to call the non-emergency line at 972-273-1010. When reporting, individuals should provide the exact location and a description of the person responsible. Police emphasize that this line should be used to keep 911 channels open for life-threatening emergencies.
Celebratory gunfire is also illegal and considered extremely dangerous. The department warns that bullets fired into the air can fall back to the ground and cause serious injury or death. Irving is located approximately 9 miles west of Dallas.
Grilling safety is another focus of the guidance. Residents are advised to place grills in open areas, keeping them well away from homes, fences, trees, and other flammable materials. The department stresses that hot grills should never be left unattended.
Pets are also a concern during this time, as more animals go missing around the Fourth of July than at any other point in the year. Owners are encouraged to keep their pets indoors and provide a quiet, safe space away from loud noises.
