Federal and local law enforcement agencies have raised the financial incentive for information regarding the whereabouts of Abel Elias Acosta, a suspect in a deadly Garland shooting. The total reward has been increased to $70,000, a figure that includes a new $50,000 contribution from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The remaining $20,000 comes from other sources supporting the investigation.
Acosta, who was 18 years old at the time of the incident, is accused of shooting three teenagers to death in Garland in December 2021. He has remained at large since the attack. Investigators believe the suspect may currently be located in Mexico but continue to maintain connections to the North Texas region.
Authorities are actively ramping up their search efforts and are urging the public to come forward with any details, no matter how minor they may seem. Law enforcement officials stated that providing information could help bring closure to the families of the victims.
Garland is situated approximately 13 miles northeast of Dallas. The city has seen other recent violent incidents, including a fatal shooting on Melrose Street and a separate murder charge involving a stabbing at a local grocery store, though these cases are distinct from the triple murder investigation.
In a separate legal matter involving the region, the state's highest criminal court recently denied an appeal by a Dallas County death row inmate. The inmate had sought intervention despite a co-defendant claiming responsibility for a 2008 double murder. The court declined to intervene in that case.
