Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel responded to Willis C. Winters Park on Sunday after receiving reports of a fire. The park is situated at 303 S. Glasgow Dr. in Dallas. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames actively burning within the outfield area of the facility's baseball diamond. Crews utilized a hand line to suppress the blaze, successfully extinguishing the fire before it could cause further structural damage, although the flames had already spread in several directions and scorched the outfield wall.

Following the suppression of the fire, emergency crews located the remains of two spent bottle rockets on the field. Dallas Fire-Rescue investigators were subsequently called to the scene to conduct a thorough review of the incident. The investigation revealed that no witnesses observed the fire during its initial stages. A representative for the park informed officials that the property was secured at the time the fire started. Although security cameras are operational at the location, none were positioned to capture footage of the outfield where the fire originated.

Based on the evidence gathered, including the presence of the fireworks remnants, investigators classified the cause of the blaze as accidental. The determination concluded that an open flame from the fireworks made contact with ordinary combustibles on the synthetic playing surface. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Further details regarding potential repairs to the turf or the specific timeline of the fireworks usage were not provided in the initial report.
