A Dallas police officer was hospitalized on Wednesday afternoon after a vehicle struck their patrol car while they were conducting a traffic stop on the Marvin D. Love Freeway. The incident occurred around 3:52 p.m. along the 6200 block of U.S. Highway 67, according to Dallas Police.
The officer had exited their vehicle to handle the stop when a passing car collided with both the officer and the patrol SUV. The driver of the striking vehicle was also transported to a medical facility. Authorities have not released the conditions of either patient, noting only that the officer received a precautionary evaluation.
Aerial footage from NBC 5’s Texas Sky Ranger captured the aftermath, showing at least four damaged vehicles at the scene. These included the Dallas police SUV, a blue sedan lying on its side, and two midsize SUVs being loaded onto tow trucks. No other injuries were reported.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. It remains unclear whether the vehicle initially stopped by the officer was involved in the collision. Traffic in the northbound lanes between Red Bird Lane and Hampton Road experienced significant backups, extending south of Interstate 20 to Cockrell Hill Road.
