Two Dallas Officers Injured in Crash With Alleged Impaired Driver

Dallas police confirmed that two officers were hospitalized after their vehicle was struck by a driver accused of intoxication at an intersection in the city.

Two Dallas police officers were transported to a hospital following a collision with a vehicle driven by a suspect accused of driving while intoxicated. The incident took place on Monday at the intersection of Abrams Road and Royal Lane, according to a department release.

Dallas Police Department officials stated that the suspect struck the officers' patrol vehicle. Both officers were removed from the scene in a private vehicle and taken to a nearby medical facility. The suspect, identified in the release as 33-year-old John Gutierrez, was transported by Dallas Fire-Rescue for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Gutierrez has been charged with driving while intoxicated and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Authorities have not yet disclosed the condition of the officers or the suspect beyond the fact that they received medical attention. The department indicated that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
