Two children, aged 5 and 13, who were reported missing in Dallas on Wednesday morning, have been found safe following an extensive search by the Dallas Police Department.
The children left a location south of downtown Dallas on foot around 5 a.m. Investigators believe they later received transportation to the Mountain View area, although the details of who transported them or how they arrived there remain unclear.
A Good Samaritan returned the younger child to the Belleview Street location around 11:30 a.m. Dallas Fire-Rescue evaluated the child before taking them to the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center for further care and interviews. Approximately an hour later, officers located the 13-year-old in the Mountain View area, who was also evaluated and taken to the same center.
The Dallas Police Department is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the children's departure from their apartment complex. Lt. Frederick Mears stated that the department utilized various resources, including patrol units, public information, and drone technology, to locate the children.
Family members, who identified the children as cousins, had recently moved to the apartment complex. During the search, they expressed their desperation for assistance. The relief was palpable when they learned that the younger child had been found safe, followed by the discovery of the older child shortly thereafter.
