Klarna Group plc and Southwest Airlines Co. have entered into a long-term agreement to provide new payment flexibility for travelers across the United States. The collaboration aims to expand financial options for customers booking flights through Southwest’s digital platforms.
Beginning later this year, passengers using the Southwest Airlines website or mobile application will have access to Klarna’s payment solutions at checkout. Travelers will be able to select from several methods, including paying the total balance immediately, dividing the cost into four interest-free installments, or utilizing financing options to spread payments over time.
The deal positions Klarna in front of a significant portion of the domestic travel market. Southwest Airlines serves more nonstop domestic passengers than any other U.S. carrier, with the company reporting over 134 million customers during its fiscal year 2025.
For Klarna, the partnership represents a strategic step in its efforts to establish itself as a primary payment method for travel services. The company, which operates as a technology firm focused on commerce networks, offers financial products that include flexible payment structures, savings tools, and spending management features.
The announcement highlights the growing integration of alternative payment providers into major airline booking systems. By offering split-payment and financing options directly at checkout, the partnership seeks to address consumer demand for varied financial flexibility when purchasing airfare.
