The Houston Texans are facing challenges as they prepare for the 2026 season, particularly after wide receiver Jayden Higgins sustained a torn ACL, resulting in his placement on injured reserve. This injury has raised concerns about the team's depth at the wide receiver position, especially with Jaylin Noel and Tank Dell also dealing with injuries.

In light of Higgins' absence, the Texans are reportedly looking into signing veteran wide receivers Josh Reynolds and Zay Jones. Higgins was expected to be a key contributor as the team's No. 2 receiver, and his injury has prompted the Texans to seek additional help. While Noel, Dell, and Xavier Hutchinson could potentially step up, the team recognizes the need for further reinforcement.

Josh Reynolds, known for his time with the Detroit Lions, recorded 40 receptions for 608 yards and five touchdowns in 2023. Zay Jones, who previously played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, had a notable 2022 season with 82 catches for 823 yards and five touchdowns. Both players have faced difficulties in recent seasons, making their potential acquisition a calculated risk for the Texans.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the Texans are conducting workouts for free agent receivers, with Reynolds and Jones being primary targets. Given Higgins' significant role in the passing game, the Texans may prioritize bringing in a reliable pass catcher to bolster their receiving corps.

As the Texans assess their options, they appear to be counting on Hutchinson, Noel, and Dell to perform alongside star receiver Nico Collins. While other candidates may arise, Reynolds and Jones currently stand out as the leading options for the Texans in the wake of Higgins' injury. Further developments regarding the team's roster decisions are anticipated in the coming days.
