The Houston Texans announced the signing of quarterback Brett Rypien to a contract on Saturday.

This move comes after Graham Mertz was placed on season-ending injured reserve due to a knee injury, prompting the Texans to seek additional depth at the quarterback position. Rypien, who played in one regular-season game for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2025, took just three offensive snaps during that time.

With Rypien now on the roster, he will serve as an emergency option behind starting quarterback C.J. Stroud and backup Davis Mills. Further details regarding the terms of Rypien's contract have not yet been provided.
