The Dallas Cowboys secured a 17-7 victory against the Seattle Seahawks in their first preseason game, but the win was overshadowed by a new injury to running back Phil Mafah. During the game, Mafah sustained a chest injury and was initially listed as questionable to return, but he was later ruled out for the remainder of the match.

Fortunately, early assessments suggest that Mafah's injury is not serious. He currently ranks third on the Cowboys' depth chart, following Javonte Williams and Jaydon Blue. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer provided an update on Mafah's condition, stating, "Yeah, he's okay, I talked to him. I think we came out okay, a little bumps and bruises."

Schottenheimer also mentioned that other players, including Justin Barron, experienced minor injuries but are expected to recover. The coach indicated that further evaluations would take place the following morning in Oxnard, where the team is currently training.

Mafah, who was selected by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, had a challenging rookie season, appearing in only one game and recording five carries for 18 yards and a touchdown. In his absence, veteran running back Malik Davis stood out during the game against Seattle, achieving seven carries for 39 yards, averaging 5.5 yards per carry.

As the Cowboys prepare for roster cuts, Mafah's performance and health will be closely monitored as he competes for a spot on the final 53-man roster. Further details regarding his injury and recovery timeline have not yet been provided.
