Mariners Edge Astros in Four-Homer Slugfest

The Seattle Mariners defeated the Houston Astros 3-2 on Sunday, August 16, at Daikin Park. The game was defined by power hitting, with exactly four home runs falling between the two clubs. The Mariners took the early lead and held on for the victory, improving their season record to 59-66. The Astros fell to 63-62. Attendance was 27,971.

Scoring Sequence and Key Hits

The Mariners struck first in the top of the first inning when Arozarena homered to left center. The ball traveled 365 feet, giving Seattle a 1-0 lead. The Astros responded in the bottom of the third inning. Canzone singled to right field, allowing Rodden to score from second base and cut the deficit to 1-0.

Houston tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Peña hit a 369-foot home run to right field, bringing the score to 2-1. The Mariners regained the lead in the top of the sixth inning.

Raleigh homered to left field, a 327-foot shot that made it 3-1. The Astros answered immediately in the bottom of the sixth. Allen hit a 387-foot home run to left field, tying the game at 2-2.

No further runs were scored in the final three innings.

Pitching Performance

Bryan Woo earned the win for Seattle. He pitched six innings, allowing three hits and two runs while walking one batter and striking out five. His record improved to 9-8.

Eduard Bazardo pitched one inning with one hit, no earned runs, no walks, and one strikeout. Gabe Speier pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and no runs. Seranthony Dominguez pitched one-third of an inning, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out one.

Andres Munoz secured the save, pitching one inning with no hits, no earned runs, one walk, and two strikeouts.

Hunter Brown took the loss for Houston. He pitched five innings, allowing three hits and two runs while walking five batters and striking out five. His record dropped to 3-3.

Bennett Sousa pitched one inning, allowing three hits and one run while walking one and striking out one. Bryan Abreu pitched one inning, allowing one hit and no runs while walking one. Steven Okert pitched one inning, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out one.

Josh Hader pitched the ninth inning, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out one.
