A former assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, Jared Nuness, has accepted a two-year show-cause order from the NCAA after admitting to extensive sports betting activities. The NCAA's resolution revealed that Nuness placed approximately 3,400 bets totaling around $38,000 from December 29, 2020, to November 28, 2025, during his tenure at Baylor.
The investigation into Nuness began when a third-party sports wagering monitoring system flagged his activity in November 2025. Following this, Baylor conducted its own internal inquiry and reported its findings to the NCAA in December 2025, prompting a joint investigation.
In February 2026, Nuness admitted to violating NCAA rules by betting on professional sports through two online sportsbooks and acknowledged allowing his minor son access to those accounts. The NCAA noted that Nuness' son placed three bets on NCAA Division I men’s basketball games, amounting to $170. Importantly, none of the wagers involved Baylor University or its student-athletes.
The NCAA classified Nuness' actions as a Level II-Standard violation. In addition to the show-cause order, Nuness is required to complete meaningful sports betting education and provide similar education to his peers. He also received a three-game suspension from all athletically related activities and was subjected to a public reprimand.
Baylor Athletics stated that they cooperated fully with the NCAA throughout the investigation process. A spokesperson, Brent Ingram, emphasized that compliance education remains ongoing within the athletic department, including efforts with ProhiBet. Nuness left his position at Baylor in December 2025, citing personal reasons.
