A $19 million affordable housing complex is moving forward in Dallas with support from city officials and local residents. The Heights at UNT Station, a 210-unit project, is planned for 1201 E. Wheatland Rd., situated approximately one mile south of the University of North Texas at Dallas campus.
The development was initially proposed as a 240-unit complex but was adjusted to 210 units during its review process. It went before the Dallas City Council in February 2025 as part of an application for four percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credits. The council ultimately supported the application, allowing the project to advance.
Curtis Jones is listed as the owner of the property, with ARRIVE Architecture Group serving as the design firm. The nearly 255,000-square-foot site could see construction begin as early as January, with work expected to continue through late June 2028. Details submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation are subject to change.
While the location is close to UNT Dallas, a university spokesperson stated that the institution has no connection to the project and offered no further comment. UNT Dallas has previously noted that on-campus housing is limited, suggesting the new development could serve students in the area.
During the February public hearing, residents and council members voiced support for the initiative. Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Adam Bazaldua described the development as a positive addition to the community. One resident emphasized the need for affordable options in the southern part of Dallas, noting that many local families earn less than $100,000 annually and cannot afford high-rise luxury apartments.
